Practical glossary of terms covering not only the area of outsourcing:
Country Kitting
This expression is used especially in the area of manufacturing PC’s where there are differences not only in the language of the printed materials but also in keyboards, cable plugs etc. The product documentation is packed by the supplier with keyboard, mouse, wiring and other items into one kit.
Forecast
A periodically updated list of items and specific amounts needed for production and delivery in near future.
Innovation
Ongoing process of searching for and implementing changes into the existing processes for improvement.
Internal Printing Materials
Business cards, headed letter papers, envelopes of all sizes, folders with flaps, internal forms, annual reports and many others.
Localization Items
Items related to the main product but altered according to the language or region of distribution. For example manuals, warranty books, power cables, computer keyboards, outer packs etc.
Marketing Materials
Printing materials from leaflets to catalogues and posters. Boutique items, from key rings to jackets.
And many others.
Packing and Localization Items
A total of all items outside the product itself. It includes packing items and filling foams, product documentation, mounting tools, wiring, hardware needed to localize (keyboards, wiring)
Outsourcing (also BPO, Business Process Outsourcing)
Activities that the company used to do itself or for which it organized a number of suppliers are now overtaken by a specialized external supplier who becomes responsible for the functionality of the whole entrusted area.
Product Documentation
Usually a collection of printing materials, media (such as CD’s, DVD’s, flash cards) and number of other items.
